Mellow Creme

Tabviranhangwe Motsi, best known in the music industry as Mellow Creme is a Zimbabwean Afrofusion singer and creative. He also maintains a mark in the canvas of urban arts as an illustrator and poet.

Mellow Creme first released his debut album Mellow Madness in 2016. After an admirable response from the public, he followed up his debut by a mixtape called ‘Mellowdramatic Vol 1’ in 2017, setting it up with rap lyrics that touch mainly on love and pan-Africanism.

Mellow has an enigmatic stage presence and warmth in his voice

Others have called him fearless because Mellow is not afraid to push boundaries in his art. After all, arts appreciation makes it beautiful. Poetry is his strengths seen all over his music, unknotted by a warm hoarse voice. He writes and performs with his band and when he makes a performance on stage, his aura is tangible setting the stage alive. No wonder he brings each idea to live through lyrics, doodles, a painting, or sketch.

Mellow’s deep hoarse voice is sometimes likened to the legendary DMX, Ja Rule and sometimes Barry White. He has grown in leaps and bounds as a performing artist experimenting with many different sounds and now he is firmly set on a fusion of Hip Hop with traditional Zimbabwean sounds. When those especially in the diaspora see him perform at festivals or shows, there is a feeling of home in his music and bridges every mile set by distance and circumstance.

I can’t wait to see Mellow on a global stage. His sound is unique and has a whiskey and cigar feel to it.

In recent years, he has performed at HIFA (Harare International Festival of the Arts) and in 2018 releasing an album called Theory Of Nakedivity which had a great listening session at The British Council on the 8th of December 2018.

The album is an insight into the vulnerability of an honest man in a society that does not wholly sensitise the feelings and emotions of an alpha male and expects him to bottled it all in. ‘Man Up’ the world says. This is the realism faced in our lives even today.

Mellow Creme is a big dreamer with a humble soul. He is a deeply introspective and authentic artist who always speaks from a place of reason. I have nicknamed him the “Come-Through-er”, because he keeps his word. Every. Single. Time!

The year 2019 made the artist outstanding by going on a promotional tour across Southern Africa with the main highlights being an opening act for Cassper Nyovest, Kuzani and Samthing Soweto at GOG Soweto Gardens in Jo’burg on The Africa Day Invasion 25 May.

In September 2020 during the COVID pandemic Mellow performed for the virtually at the Sotambe Film Festival Zambia 2020.

A triple threat. Great word play, great voice and looks. A multi hyphenate creative, Mellow is very professional and is Africa’s best kept secret.

He also released his new single True Love featuring Carlo Music. A remake of the 90s classic True Love by Busi Ncube and Ilanga. Inspired and sampling the original pop classic this is an ode to Zimbabwean music and a dedication to his wife. We are living in an unpredictable time were we question everything around us including the relationships and values that used to exist in the past. True Love is laced with poetry that you can recite to your loved one be they your husband, wife, bae, sibling or son or grandparents. It’s a soothing track fit for a wedding and also perfect for a goofy Sunday afternoon with those you care about.

Featuring the sweet vocals and guitar magic of Carlo Music this song was inspired by Mellow’s drive to showcase the best from Zimbabwe in an era filled with Naija and South African influences on African hiphop and pop music. Recorded by David Sengwayo at WhereItsAt Records with Carlo playing a vintage 1984 Fender to Mellow Creme’s vocals and through Busi Ncube’s blessing this is Mellow’s 2020 gift to Africa. There’s nothing like a fresh perspective of classic Zimbabwean music to remind people of our resilience and rich music culture which resonates throughout generations. True love matters the most and it is for everyone. This single introduces the fusion of more authentic Zimbabwean sounds in Mellow Creme’s music.

Mellow Creme is an intriguing story teller with many layers to his talents. We always enjoy hosting him.

Mellow Creme’s tenacity and focus is a good foundation for greatness

Mellow is one hit away from shaking the world and proving to the industry that he is in it for the long haul.
